Gwydir Park Refuge
Around 2008 Geoff and Pat Johnson started the refuge thinking they could rehome 50 or 60 dogs and cats a year, never in their life did they think it would grow into what it is today but they could not say no to all these dogs and cats that turn up.
Some people would leave their animals up at the top gate during the night, so in the morning Geoff would find them and some had been mistreated.
Geoff never turns any animal away, some will spend the rest of their lives living in the refuge. No animal will be put to sleep unless their suffering and beyond help.
Geoff and Pat are an amazing couple, there selfless act of helping the animals and then finding them a new home. where they will be loved and they dont take this likely. So dont think that the animals that they rescue come there and then are rehomed as fast as possible, becauses thats far from the truth, they are very particular about who becomes new owners of there animals.
Some of the animals that where adopted from the refuge come back and stay as boarders. which is a credit to the way Geoff and Pat run the refuge.
Their funding comes from the boarding of animals also they have a bin just inside the Inverell woolworths doors which people are able to donate dog food or blankets. Ritchies IGA also helps out aswell.
Inverell Council has helped with suppling the microchips on occasions and they have also received donations from the public.
This unfortunately is not enough but thats the extent of the funding in which Geoff and Pat run the refuge. SO THEY NEED YOUR HELP.
